Catherine Ford was born in Bloomsbury, London; her father had left her family and she was taken care of by her mother, grandma and godparents. In her childhood Ford was afflicted with anxiety due to an obsessional-compulsive disorder. Ford's interest in acting began when she was young. She was a part of in the National Youth Theatre. She had been accepted to Sylvia Young Theatre School. However, after a short period of days, she realized that Sylvia Young Theatre School was not the right place right for her. Ford made an application for admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama and was eventually offered the position she wanted on her third attempt. Shaun Dingwall would play Pete Tyler as a regular character in Doctor Who. Ford's television debut was in the 1991 episode Surgical Spirit. By the moment she was done with school, Ford already went by "Catherine Tate". Tate appeared in programs on television as The Bill, Men Behaving Badly, and London Burning. Tate also performed regularly in theatres, before eventually being a part of in the Royal Shakespeare Company for its 2000-2001 season. Tate became famous for her stand-up comedies, that were added to Tate's show in the year 1996.
